SpartanNash

If you’ve visited a Family Fare, you know SpartanNash—a trusted name in grocery retail. With over 17,000 employees nationwide, they’re dedicated to providing quality ingredients to customers and communities.

For anyone in the grocery retail sector, the digital experience is key, ensuring customers can easily find quality goods, promotions, and store locations.

We collaborated with SpartanNash to revitalize five key banners: Family Fare, VG’s, Family Fresh Market, D&W Fresh Food Market, and Forest Hills Foods. We enhanced their digital presence, improving user experience and customer engagement while respecting each brand’s unique identity.

Goals & Strategy

We set out to modernize these brands for a younger, tech-savvy audience—especially millennials with young families. This wasn’t just about a visual update; it was about creating a deeper connection with customers through a user-friendly, engaging eCommerce experience. By combining modern design with clear communication of promotions, we aimed to make every interaction an opportunity to engage and convert.

Every brand received a unique, carefully crafted approach.

VG's Grocery

We introduced a “modern retro” look that blends nostalgic charm with a fresh, contemporary feel to attract a broader audience.

Family Fare

Our focus was on aligning the in-store experience with the online platform, creating a seamless brand identity that elevates the overall customer experience.

D&W Fresh Food Market

We refined this brand’s design to highlight its premium, upscale positioning, appealing to those who appreciate quality and exclusivity.

Forest Hills Foods

We emphasized a natural that reflects its upscale grocery shopping experience while reinforcing its role as a trusted local market.

Challenges & Solutions

Working within Freshop’s custom eCommerce platform was no small task, especially since it relies on a page builder with limited design flexibility. For the first time ever, we managed to integrate Elementor—a more versatile design tool—with Freshop. This required significant effort and close collaboration with both SpartanNash and Freshop.

By making this integration possible, we were able to create a more dynamic and visually appealing website, while also simplifying content management for SpartanNash’s team. Despite the challenges and tight deadlines, we delivered a high-quality solution, proving our ability to navigate complex projects and achieve outstanding results.

Results & Ongoing Collaboration

Early signs point to a significant boost in both user satisfaction and client confidence. This success has not only solidified our year-long partnership with SpartanNash but also underscored the value of our collaborative approach.

In our ongoing work with their e-commerce team, we’ve concentrated on optimizing their websites, launching new promotions, and offering advanced training in WordPress and Elementor. This continued support enables SpartanNash’s team to confidently manage their digital presence, ensuring their brands stay competitive in the market.
